Professional background

Dr Akbar de Medici qualified from the Guys and St Thomas’ MBBS/PhD programme in 2002. His research degrees were in sports and respiratory physiology with an interest in wearable wireless technology. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, presented at numerous international conferences and written a best-selling medical text book for objective structured clinical examination (OSCE’s).

Services provided to HCA

Dr Akbar de Medici helps manage many of the elite sport contacts at the ISEH, this provides secondary emergency medical cover to the majority of premiership football games in London, all Wembley games and to the NFL when visiting the UK and supports their access to research and education through UCL.

He has been central in setting up the Sport Analytics work, supporting activities with ARUK and has worked closely with the FA, Royal Ballet, European Golf Tour and RFU, supporting their clinical links with the ISEH. HCA UK is charged by doctors in return for their expertise and advice, including on how to operate safe hospital facilities delivering complex care. All services provided under this agreement are charged to HCA UK. From 1 January to 30 April 2019, the total charge was £10,204.78.

HCA requires the doctors that advise us to attest that if they also practice in the NHS that they are not compromising their NHS commitments.
