Mr Charles Imber, Consultant General Surgeon
Mr Charles Imber is a consultant general surgeon with a special interest in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, as well as liver transplantation. This area of surgery ranges from keyhole gallbladder surgery to more advanced liver / pancreatic resections for cancer. He also specialises in hernia surgery and is a member of the 'total abdomen' team here at the Princess Grace which is a unique multidisciplinary unit offering all aspects of straightforward and complex hernia surgery.
After qualifying from Cambridge University Mr Imber has had extensive training in all aspects of both open and laparoscopic HPB surgery in London, Cambridge and Birmingham. He is the Head of service for the University College Hospital Liver/Pancreas team which has published world class outcomes for major benign / malignant surgery and also performs liver transplantation at the Royal Free Hospital. He is also a member of the London Sarcoma service based at UCH.
In 2002, Mr Imber completed a Masterís thesis on the preservation of liver tissue for transplantation at Cambridge University. He has published extensively in the scientific literature with over 30 cited manuscripts in major journals, written several book chapters and has presented at national and international meetings on a regular basis.
Services provided to HCA
Total Surgery Ltd provides medical advisory services for HCA's The Princess Grace Hospital in regard to a General Surgery consultant rota. Mr Imber leads interactions with hospital medical staff and the hospital leadership team to assist the hospital by providing medical advice and promote high quality, cost effective care.
In addition, he works with medical insurance companies, GPs, other relevant local NHS contacts, and patients to educate and advise on relevant clinical updates to treatments in anaesthetist available in the facility. Furthermore, he advises on the accuracy of literature that may be published regarding relevant services. He will also advise on how to make the patient referral smooth to reduce stress and anxiety for patients. Mr Imber has initiated, and is a major contributor to, an out-of-hours emergency on-call rota for general surgery at the Princess Grace Hospital, in order to provide safe, experienced and high-quality general surgeons around the clock to everyone who needs it.
HCA UK is charged by doctors in return for their expertise and advice, including on how to operate safe hospital facilities delivering complex care. All services provided under this agreement are charged to HCA UK. From January to December 2016, the total charge was £14,100.00.
