Dr David Lipkin is Medical Director of the Wellington Diagnostic and Outpatient Centre, and the Co-Medical Director of the Wellington Hospital’s Clinical Investigation and Research Centre

He specialises in the assessment of chest pain, coronary artery disease, coronary angioplasty and stenting. Dr Lipkin is also involved in percutaneous replacement of the aortic valve.  

In addition he holds interest in heart failure and pacing, valvular heart diseases, hypertension and syncope (blackouts), and is the Cardiology Representative on the Wellington’s Medical Advisory Committee.

Services provided to HCA


Dr Lipkin provides medical advisory services for HCA's The Wellington Hospital. In his role, Dr Lipkin leads interactions with hospital medical staff and the hospital leadership team to assist the hospital by providing medical advice and promote high quality, cost effective care.

In his role, he contributes to the strategy, policies and decision making regarding cardiology treatments and advises HCA to ensure that care provided within the facility is appropriate and efficient. In his role, Dr Lipkin advises on initiatives to drive clinical standards by providing professional advice on clinical governance matters and ensuring the adoption of those by colleagues in the cardiology area.

In addition, he works with medical insurance companies, GPs, other relevant local NHS contacts, and patients to educate and advise on relevant clinical updates to treatments in cardiology available in the facility. Furthermore, he advises on the accuracy of literature that may be published regarding relevant services. He will also advise on how to make the patient referral smooth to reduce stress and anxiety for patients.

As well as promoting successful working of the facility's Medical Advisory Committee, Integrated Governance Committee and advising the hospital's senior management team on all matters relating to medical practice within the facility, Dr Lipkin is responsible for providing advice on clinical governance matters to conform with national standards and recommend new programmes to drive up clinical standards.

In addition, he supports the HCA team to recruit and retain staff as well as taking a lead role in medical staff credentialing. In his role, he will evaluate ongoing quality initiatives such as clinical audits and quality assurance programmes.

In particular, Dr Lipkin supports The Wellington Hospital in the following tasks:

HCA UK is charged by doctors in return for their expertise and advice, including on how to operate safe hospital facilities delivering complex care. All services provided under this agreement are charged to HCA UK. From January to December 2017, the total charge was £64,077.
